Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear Medicine is an imaging study in which radioactive tracers are introduced into the body before a patient is imaged. The information obtained from this scan is utilized to diagnose diseases of the thyroid, bone, kidney, liver, gallbladder, heart and brain.

Unlike diagnostic radiology, which is based on anatomy, nuclear medicine documents organ function and structure. It can identify abnormalities early on in the progression of a disease --long before some medical problems are apparent with other diagnostic tests.

Doshi Diagnostic employs state-of-the-art nuclear medicine imaging equipment. All of our gamma cameras have SPECT capability and the latest software packages.

We perform a full range of nuclear medicine and nuclear cardiology procedures. This includes thallium and cardiolite imaging, as well as bone, liver, renal and thyroid scans.

Nuclear Cardiology

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the western world. Nuclear cardiology has played a pivotal role in establishing the diagnosis of heart disease and in the assessment of disease extent and the prediction of outcomes in the setting of coronary artery disease.

Coronary artery disease results from the narrowing of the blood vessels that supply the heart. The blood vessels become narrow when fatty deposits build up inside the arterial wall. When the arteries become clogged, the blood flowto the heart muscle is impaired and a heart attack can occur.

Nuclear cardiology studies use noninvasive techniques to assess myocardial blood flow, evaluate the pumping function of the heart, as well as visualize the size and location of a heart attack.

Our stress test assesses the regional blood flow to the heart muscle both at stress and at rest. By comparingthe two images, we can determineif there was prior damage to the heart or if there is a lack of blood flow to the heart during exercise.

At Doshi Diagnostic, our stress test equipment is the very latest inintegrated treadmill and computer design. For high-resolution cardiac studies, we utilize a dual-headed cardiac gamma camera, which reduces scanning time for increased patient comfort. Stress test procedures are conducted by supervising cardiologists and registered nurses certified in ACLS.
